About Dog Walks

An independent, plain-English guide to bringing pets to Australia.

Dog Walks helps families bring a dog or cat to Australia, and settle them in once they arrive. We explain the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) import process in plain English, link to the official source for every rule, and add practical tips for the stressful months of preparation.

The story of this domain

The dogwalks.com.au domain belonged to a small business that, for nearly six years, walked, visited and photographed pets during their stay in Australia’s quarantine stations in Sydney, Perth and Melbourne. Its team saw more than 2,000 families of dogs and cats through quarantine. When visits ended on 3 March 2014, the site became a guide to migrating with pets. That business is no longer operating. This independent guide was relaunched on the domain in 2026 and every page has been rewritten from current official sources. We are not that business, and we don’t offer pet visiting, transport or quarantine services.

How we research

Our main source is DAFF, including its step-by-step guides for cats and dogs, its rabies testing guidance and its permit information. For life after quarantine we use state government and council sources and animal welfare organisations such as the RSPCA. Each guide lists its sources and the date it was last updated.

We do not invent quotes, statistics, prices or reviews. Import fees change, so we link to DAFF’s fee pages instead of quoting figures.

What we are not

We are not a government agency, a vet, a migration agent or a pet transport company. Nothing on this site is veterinary, legal or migration advice. Your import permit sets the exact conditions for your pet, and DAFF is the authority. If anything here differs from your permit, follow the permit.

How we are funded

Nobody can pay to change our guides or recommendations. If a page carries affiliate links, ads or a paid listing, it is clearly labelled, and our editorial policy explains how we make money.
